Author Guidelines

Manuscript Formatting Guidelines

Title Page: Must be precise, self-explanatory and brief (not more than 25 words). The Font Size and type is Times New Roman 14, bold and centered.

Corresponding author details with their affiliation(s) (surname, other names, institution and Country) must be mentioned below the title. The corresponding author should have an asterisk (*) sign before the name in the authors list. Corresponding author should be provided with complete affiliation, contact number and e-mail address.

Abstract: Each manuscript must contain an abstract of no more than 300 words for all articles. An abstract need to be concise, informative, self-explanatory and must be free from citations. It should be single spaced, Font 11, Times New Roman.

Keywords: Keywords should be precisely picked from the manuscript and comprise of those most commonly used words in the article. The limit is 8 keywords.

Introduction: This section should lay a strong background for the study to enable the readers to understand the purpose and need for the study. It should contain citations of previously published research studies and literature relevant to the topic that are used in the article. The introduction should clearly highlight the empirical and theoretical literature review, research gaps, research focus, research questions and objectives.

Methodology: This section should provide detailed procedures, techniques and methods applied in the research e.g. study design, sample and sampling techniques, instruments and procedures, data analysis and other methodological details critical for replication.  This section may have multiple sub sections as per the number of methods and methodologies used.

Results:  This should describe the results of the study in line with the objectives and an  analytical framework while providing a summary of the most remarkable findings.

Discussion: This section aims at analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing the findings in the context of existing literature while suggesting future directions for research, new methods and explanations for deviations including support for previously published results from credible sources.

Conclusions: This should clearly articulate the outcome of the synthesis of the findings while giving a sense of completeness and a final impression on the reader showing the importance of the research statement.

Acknowledgements and Funding: The author should acknowledge people, grants, funds, etc. that contributed towards the success of the work. Authors should also declare whether or not they have competing interests as well as ethical approvals sought and granted for the study (if any)

Figures and Tables: All figures and tables should include the relevant captions, titles, description or footnotes using the latest APA format.

Reference Formatting: AJADA  publishes all reference lists in APA style (Publication Manual of the APA, Latest Edition). Non authoritative sources should not be used for references. The following is a sample of a reference list entry for a journal article and a book chapter.

Journal Articles: Warner, L. A., White, H. R., and Johnson, V. (2007). Alcohol initiation experiences and family history of alcoholism as predictors of problem-drinking trajectories. Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, 70, 56–65.

Book Chapters: McCord, J. (1991). Identifying developmental paradigms leading to alcoholism. In D. J. Pittman and H. R. White (Eds.), Society, culture, and drinking patterns reexamined (pp. 480–491). New Brunswick, NJ: Alcohol Research Documentation, Inc.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • Once a manuscript has been submitted to AJADA, an author should not submit the same to any other journal during the review process.
  • Title is precise, self-explanatory and brief (not more than 25 words). The font size of the title should be New Times Roman 14, bold and centered.
  • Keywords should be precisely picked from the manuscript and comprise of commonly used words. The limit is 8 words.
  • The submission has not been previously published, or submitted to or is before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text is single-spaced, uses a 12-point font,  employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses), and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. Tables should be in APA style.
  • Information obtained from confidential sources must not be used without the written permission from the authors, organizations or funders of the work. Ethical considerations must be declared.
  • Each manuscript must contain an abstract of no more than 300 words for all articles. An abstract should be concise, informative, self-explanatory and must be free from citation. It should be single spaced, font 11, New Times Roman
  • We encourage authors with ORCID IDs to submit the details during the submission for ease of subsequent processing and profiling.
  • AJADA subjects all the submissions received to a similarity check (plagiarism), the maximum acceptable threshold for publishing is 30%.
  • The journal does not accept to review any material(s) that is artificially (AI) generated wholly or in part.

Research article

The word limit is 5000 words excluding abstracts, references, tables or figures and other annexes.

Review Article

These articles communicate a clear description of novel findings or ideas in the field of alcohol and drug abuse without covering detailed background information about the problem or intervention but rather give key pointers that other scholars can interrogate. The word limit is 5000 words excluding abstract, references, tables or figures.

Short communication

These articles communicate a clear description of novel findings or ideas in the field of alcohol and drug abuse without covering detailed background information about the problem or intervention but rather give key pointers that other scholars can interrogate. The word limit is 2500 words excluding abstract, references, tables or figures.

Policy briefs

These articles are concise summary of a particular issue, policy option or recommendation for best practices. The word limit is 2500 words excluding abstract, references, tables or figures and other annexes.

Editorial

These articles convey views on any theme relevant to the journal's concerns that contain no more than 1200 words excluding references.

Letters

Letters: Letters are written to convey any views or perspectives on current research interests or problems. The word limit is 1200 words excluding references. There should be no figures and tables in this type of manuscript.

This is an open access journal with authors retaining copyrights for their manuscripts. Manuscripts are reusable in other forms and media with proper citation of the original paper.
